Kerry Senator praises introduction of new emergency communications system

The new Mission Critical Communications platform will improve response times and strengthen resilience in rural communities.

That's according to Fine Gael Senator Mike Kennelly, after the launch of the new emergency communications system designed to keep first responders connected during severe weather and power outages.

In January, Storm Eowyn left almost 40,000 ESB customers in Kerry without power, with some customers without power almost a week later.

The Mission Critical Communications platform will grant priority access for emergency crews, meaning communication lines stay open during extreme events.

The aim of the new technology is to bring peace of mind to rural families, especially those with elderly or vulnerable relatives, as winter approaches.

The new platform was successfully tested in Westport this week and is expected to significantly enhance emergency response nationwide.
