The Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant has brought more than 170 (173) vacant and derelict homes back into use in Kerry.
That's according to statistics published by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
The update has been welcomed by Kerry TDs Minister Norma Foley and Deputy Michael Cahill, and Senator Mike Kennelly
By the 30 June this year (2026), Kerry County Council had received 762 applications for the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant.
Of these, 527 were approved and 83 were rejected.
173 have been paid out following completion for a total of over €9.6 million (€9,568,160).
In the three months between 1 April and 30 June this year, Kerry County Council received 25 Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant applications, approved 47, rejected none, and paid out 28 totalling €1,600,000.
Nationally, 14,377 applications for the grant nationally have been approved since the scheme began in July 2022, and a total 6,312 grant payments have already issued on completion of works.
This means, on average, six previously vacant properties are being brought back into active use nationwide every working day since the scheme was introduced.
