Independent chair Tony Keohane has written to FAI staff apologising for the ‘negative noise’ arising from yesterday’s Public Accounts Committee hearing.
Committee chair Brian Stanley claimed the reason presented by FAI CEO Jonathan Hill for receiving excess payment for 2022 was an “insult to the public”.
Hill claimed a throwaway remark led to him being paid 12-thousand euro extra, money which has since been repaid.
Keohane told staff the board will continue to try to restore trust in the FAI.

The FAI, meanwhile, have clarified inaccurate reports around the Ireland women’s under-17 team.
Several Israeli journalists have tweeted picture from the anthems before today’s Euro qualifier with Israel in Tirana.
In the picture, the players are turned to face the Irish tricolour and not - as was claimed - disrespecting the Israeli anthem.
Ireland won the game 3-nil.
