Seanad Éireann has heard that the N69 road into Listowel is in an appalling and deteriorating condition.
Radio Kerry reported last week that county councillors in North Kerry were furious the N69 had been overlooked for funding in an announcement made last month by Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
A Municipal District meeting heard Kerry County Council had listed the N69 as a priority route for funding, but the TII did not include it in its allocation of around €33 million for national roads this year.
Four weeks on from that funding announcement, Fine Gael Senator Mike Kennelly has now raised the issue in the Seanad.
He asked for an explanation as to why the €300,000 needed to improve the road surface on the N69 coming into Listowel was not provided.
Minister of State Marian Harkin, responding on behalf of the Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien, said she will bring the issue to his attention.
She said the TII will continue to engage with Kerry County Council on this and other routes.
