Public advised to take precautions during yellow rain and wind warnings

A status yellow rain warning continues to remain in place until 3pm today.

There will also be a status yellow wind warning for Kerry, along with the rest of the country, from midday until midnight.

Met Éireann is warning of difficult driving conditions, displaced objects and the possibility of fallen trees.

Kerry County Council has advised motorists to take additional care while driving and to be mindful of pedestrians and cyclists, and to be aware of falling debris and power lines.

Drivers in Tralee are advised that a tree is down on the Slieve Road near Ballyroe and to exercise caution while driving in the area.

Significant surface water is accumulating at both sides of the bridge across the estuary into Blennerville.

The Road Safety Authority have also issued their own advice for motorists during the weather warnings.

The RSA has advised drivers to slow down and allow a greater braking distance between themselves and the vehicle in front of them.

This is especially important on dual carriageways and motorways where there is increased danger of aquaplaning.

Motorists are advised to drive with dipped headlights to ensure visibility and to take special care when driving behind goods vehicles.

Water Safety Ireland have advised the public not to walk near coastlines and rivers, and to avoid engaging in swimming and water based activities.

The public are also advised that attractions and events across the county may be closed or postponed due to weather conditions.

Killarney National Park, Killarney House and Gardens and Muckross House and Gardens will all be closing at 12 noon today.

The Re-Imagining Caherdaniel event for Architecture Kerry that was due to take place at Derrynane House today has also been cancelled and will rescheduled at a later date.

The Dingle Food Festival, taking place from today until Sunday October 5th is going ahead as planned.

The organisers are liaising with Kerry County Council and the Gardaí, and say that safety is their priority. Any updates will be issued on their social media channels.
