The person of interest in the murder of Jamey Carney could be detained for up to 18 months under Jordanian law.
The body of Jamey Carney was found at her home on the Muckross Road last week, and a murder investigation was launched after a post-mortem was carried out by the state pathologist.
A person of interest in the case, Ahmad Al-Saqar, is currently being detained in Jordan, and under Jordanian law, can be held for up to 18 months.
It’s believed the US authorities may have played a role in his detention in Jordan, and it’s not yet known if gardaí will attempt to travel there to speak with him.
Irish Examiner journalist Liz Dunphy says it may not be necessary for gardaí to travel, if they gather enough evidence to request his extradition to Ireland.
Ms Carney’s funeral mass took place in St Mary’s Cathedral in Killarney yesterday, with a guard of honour accompanying the hearse through Killarney town afterwards.
