There were 950 abortions in Kerry in the first six years of the provision of termination services in Ireland.
Provision of termination of pregnancy services commenced in January 2019, and there were 966 terminations carried out for women living in Kerry to the end of 2024.
The HSE yesterday published its first report on termination of pregnancy, covering the years 2019 to 2025.
It showed there were 48 terminations in Kerry in 2019, 110 in 2020, and 103 in 2021.
There were 189 terminations of pregnancies in Kerry in 2022, 254 in 2023, and 262 in 2024, reflecting a mostly year-on-year rise.
The report says there is likely to be a range of factors for these trends, including improved access to termination of pregnancy services, economic pressures, and demographic shifts.
The report says University Hospital Kerry provides medical terminations, but is one of nine maternity units which does not provide planned surgical terminations; it does provide surgical terminations in emergency cases.
