Just six people in Kerry have drawn down funding on the government’s First Home Scheme since its inception in 2022.
The First Home Scheme was set up to provide funding to first-time buyers who cannot cover the cost of a new-build or self-build home despite having mortgage approval and a deposit, with the state taking a 30% equity in the home.
The latest update from the scheme shows over 11,100 buyers across Ireland have been approved by the scheme, but just 18 of these are in Kerry.
Just under 5,900 buyers have already completed the purchase of their home, but just 6 of these are in Kerry.
The scheme has been opened up to more buyers in Kerry, with properties worth up to €425,000 now eligible.
According to the latest report by Daft.ie, Kerry is the most expensive place in Munster to buy a new-build home except for Cork City, with a median asking price of €430,000.
