The number of evictions in Kerry has almost doubled in the space of 12 months.
That’s according to data from the Residential Tenancies Board, which covers to the end of March this year.
New tenancy regulations came into effect on 1st March, which included rent caps of 2% and tenancy security of six years.
The RTB received 185 notices of termination in Kerry during the first three months of 2026.
Notices of termination are served by landlords on tenants when they want to end a tenancy, and they must also be shared with the RTB at the same time.
It marks a significant increase since the first three months of last year, when there were 94 eviction notices received in Kerry; an increase of almost 97% in 12 months.
The number of evictions in Kerry has risen quarter by quarter since the end of 2024.
New regulations on tenancies came into effect on 1st March this year, which included rent caps of 2%, tenancy security of six years, and stricter rules on ending tenancies.
There had been concerns that these regulations may lead to landlords selling up prior to that March deadline.
Nationally, the number of evictions in the first three months of the year were at a record high at over 7,000, with over 4,200 of those evictions directly because the landlord was selling the property.
