Rural areas such as Kerry will be hit by increasing rents when new tenancy rules come into effect in March.
That’s according to the Irish Property Owners' Association, who believe the measures will drive landlords out of the market in this county.
From March 1st, renters who sign agreements on or after this date will be entitled to six-year tenancies.
Small landlords – those with three or fewer tenants – will be banned from putting their properties on the market without tenants being left in situ.
Such landlords will be exempt from this rule if they are selling on grounds of financial hardship, or they or a close family member need to live in the property.
In August, Daft.ie said rents in Kerry rose by more than 70% in the previous five years.
