The Garda Representative Association is calling for a review of the current operating policing model.
That's according to Eddie Walsh, a representative of the Kerry branch of the GRA.
The association is holding it's annual conference in Killarney this week.
Mr Walsh said that at least 2000 Gardaí are needed nationwide, with a shortage of 40 to 50 in Kerry.
He has also called for a fraud unit in every county in Ireland, stating that there is currently no such unit in Kerry.
As well as this, he has also said that pay and conditions need to be addressed.
The annual GRA conference is taking place in Killarney over two days this week.
