The Department of Agriculture has been notified after the remains of several lambs were dumped in a south Kerry river. Kerry County Council is investigating

The Department of Agriculture has been notified after the remains of several lambs were dumped in a south Kerry river.

Kerry County Council is investigating the incident, which saw eight dead lambs dumped into the River Blackwater.

County vet Paddy Fenton says at least one of the lambs was skinned, adding it’s a shocking incident.

It’s now been brought to the council’s attention that animals have also previously been dumped in this river.

The council is planning to contact the National Parks and Wildlife Service today, as Paddy Fenton says this river is home to freshwater pearl mussel:

Meanwhile, Independent councillor Dan McCarthy has condemned the fact that dead lambs were dumped into the River Blackwater.

He says this watercourse is very beneficial to local farmers, adding this was an awful incident.

Cllr McCarthy says it costs €40 to correctly dispose of a sheep.

He says while he condemns what happened, he does think the Department of Agriculture needs to reduce the price to dispose of animal remains:
