Kerry County Councillors will write to the National Transport Authority and Bus Éireann urging an additional evening service between Tralee and Ballybunion.
It follows a motion from Sinn Féin councillor Tom Barry at a recent meeting of Listowel Municipal District
Cllr Barry highlighted recent issues whereby passengers on the 272 bus route had been left behind as the service was already full by the time it reached Listowel.
He said while he appreciates this issue has since been resolved in the morning by the addition of a second bus, he urged for the same to be done in the evenings.
The Sinn Féin councillor added students and other passengers can’t be getting left behind in the evening time, especially with the winter approaching.
The motion received strong support from all members.
Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Fine Gael councillor Michael Foley noted given the lack of student accommodation more people will be using the bus service and capacity on the route is an issue still.
He added that students are so concerned about being left behind in the evening, that they’re walking down from the MTU campus to Tralee bus station, to ensure they get a seat.
Cllr Aoife Kennelly asked if Bus Éireann could also explore adding an official stop along this route at MTU, to alleviate concerns.
