The streets of Tralee are like Mondello Park on Friday nights because of boy racers, according to a county councillor.
Independent councillor Sam Locke raised the issue at the recent Tralee Municipal District meeting.
Cllr Locke tabled a motion at the meeting, asking what action can be taken to prevent boy racers creating a nuisance on roads leading into Tralee, Ardfert, and Fenit.
Speaking at the meeting, he said individuals in town have told him their night’s sleep and their safety is being taken away by what you might call, formula racing.
Cllr Locke said if you were to step outside your front door in Tralee at 10:30pm on a Friday night, it’s like Mondello Park, the motorsport venue in Kildare.
Kerry County Council’s written reply to his motion said the issue of nuisance driving on our roads is a matter of enforcement by An Garda Síochána.
It said the Tralee MD office will forward the concerns raised by Cllr Locke to An Garda Síochána.
He said a letter to the Superintendent in Tralee would do the job.
Mayor of Tralee, Angie Baily, said a letter can be sent to the relevant Superintendent in Tralee.
