60,000 bags of litter have been collected by county clean up volunteers in Kerry.
3,500 people took part in KWD Recycling's County Clean-Up initiative in Kerry this year, which took place over one week instead of the usual one-day event due to public health restrictions.
Noel O'Reilly from KWD Recycling says analysis of the waste collected showed single-use drinking containers are the most common item of litter retrieved across the county.
He says the programme raises awareness of the impact of littering, which deters people from throwing rubbish on Kerry's roads in the first place.
Since it was established in 2012, 60,000 bags of litter, which it's believed would stretch from Killarney to Dingle, have been collected by County Clean-Up volunteers in Kerry.
