Dame Kelly Holmes says prize money being introduced at the Olympics is a positive step forward.
Athletics will become the first sport to introduce financial rewards to winners at this summer's Games in Paris - which start in 100 days.
Holmes - who won two gold medals at the Athens Olympics in 2004 - calls it a necessary development.
