The woman whose body was discovered in Killarney yesterday afternoon has been named locally.
Jamey Carney was originally from the United States.
Gardaí and emergency services responded to an incident at a domestic residence on Muckross Road yesterday afternoon.
Ms Carney, who was in her 40s and a mother-of-one, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A senior investigating officer has been appointed, with an incident room set up at Killarney Garda Station.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
They are particularly looking for anyone who was in the Muckross Road area between Monday evening (6 July) and yesterday afternoon (7 July) and who may have camera footage, including CCTV or dashcam recordings, to come forward.
Killarney Labour councillor Marie Moloney says the town is shocked and saddened by Jamey Carney's death.
