A €600,000 upgrade by Uisce Eireann to the Kilgarvan Water Treatment Plant has enabled its removal from the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) list of vulnerable water supplies.
The Treatment plant was on the EPA’s Remedial Action List due to the presence of trihalomethanes, a byproduct of the disinfection process.
The Remedial Action List identifies drinking water supplies at risk of consistently failing to provide safe, clean drinking water.
New upgrades to the plant's treatment processes will now prevent the formation of these compounds.
The upgrade ensures ongoing compliance with drinking water regulations and significantly reduces the risk of future water quality issues.
