Tourism Minister says short-term let operators of over seven years will have to apply for planning

The Tourism Minister says short-term lets operators of over seven years will have to apply for planning but will be look on favourably.

Minister Peter Burke was speaking in the Dáil in response to questions from Kerry TD, Michael Healy-Rae.

The short-term lets register aims to cut down on the number of holiday rent-style accommodation, so properties can be used for long term tenants.

The restrictions only apply to towns with populations of over 20,000, which would include Tralee; it will come into effect from December 1st 2026.

Deputy Healy-Rae says it’s vital short-term accommodation providers with lower populations, have access to a simplified admin process.
