A technical examination is currently taking place at the Aughinish Alumina factory near Foynes, following the discovery of a suspect device yesterday afternoon.
Aughinish Alumina has a workforce of around 500 people, and is one of the biggest employers in West Limerick and North Kerry.
Gardaí were alerted to the discovery at around 3.30 yesterday afternoon, and a cordon was established around the area.

The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attended the scene and examined the suspect device which has now been removed from the scene for further examination.
Gardaí say that investigations are ongoing.
