Kerry County Council has erected signs in Killarney warning of potential algal growth along the shores of Lough Leane and Muckross Lake.
They are advising members of the public not to go in the water near visible signs of algae and to ensure dogs are under control as the bloom can be harmful to ingestion.
The council says that the overall levels of algae are not currently of concern but has received reports of localised accumulations at a small number of locations.
The situation is being closely monitored on an ongoing basis.
