Kerry is expected to be hit with severe and potentially damaging winds when Storm Ellen makes landfall tonight. Met Eireann has upgraded the wind warning

Kerry is expected to be hit with severe and potentially damaging winds when Storm Ellen makes landfall tonight.

Met Eireann has upgraded the wind warning to a status orange alert for Kerry, while six other coastal counties in the west and south are also under an orange warning for wind; a yellow-level warning's in place for the rest of the island.

The warning is in place from 9 o'clock tonight until noon tomorrow.

Met Éireann says we can expect a storm surge, heavy swells and onshore winds, as well as heavy rain and there's the possibility of coastal flooding.
