Plans announced for Creamery Cross improvement works

Kerry County Council has announced plans for improvement works on the N70 at Creamery Cross.

The project is being brought forward under a Part 8 process, which allows local authorities to carry out certain public works after a public consultation instead of the standard planning application.

The proposed scheme, located on the Ring of Kerry between Cahersiveen and Waterville, affects the townlands of Oghermong and Laharan South.

The improvement works at Creamery Cross involves widening and realigning a 700-metre section of the N70.

The upgraded road will become a type-3 single carriageway, with one lane in each direction and a total width of 7 metres.

A 2-metre-wide shared path for pedestrians and cyclists will run alongside.

The works will also include upgrades at the junction with the R565, widening the bridge over the Oghermong River, and installing new drainage systems and culverts for stream crossings.

As part of the statutory process, the council is now inviting the public to view the plans and make submissions.

Kerry County Council has concluded that neither an Environmental Impact Assessment nor an Appropriate Assessment is required, as the proposed works are unlikely to have significant environmental effects.

However, members of the public may still request an EIA screening from An Coimisiún Pleanála.

The plans will be on public display until Friday, 22nd August, during normal office hours at four locations: the Council's Area Office at Cahersiveen Courthouse, the Roads Department at County Buildings in Tralee, the Kerry National Roads Office at The Island Centre in Castleisland, and online.

To speak with someone about the project, appointments can be made by calling 066 714 2444.
