Pandemic sees 50% increase in people seeking help for alcohol addiction

An addiction counsellor says the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a 50% increase in people seeking help solely for alcohol addiction.

Senior counsellor Michael Guerin, who works at Cuan Mhuire treatment centre in Bruree, says the major issue prior to the pandemic was poly drug abuse.

He says people presenting with alcohol dependence alone was in decline.
