Over 3,800 (3,826) Back-to-School Allowance payments are to be made to families in Kerry, totalling over 1.4 million euro (€1,409,280).
The allowance is intended to support eligible families with the cost of school uniforms and footwear ahead of the next school term.
The scheme was extended this year to include children aged two and three for the first time, expanding supports to approximately 37,000 additional children nationwide.
€160 is paid for each child aged between two and eleven, and €285 for children aged 12 years and over.
The Department of Social Protection will begin processing payments from today.
The payments have been welcomed by Minister for Children and Kerry TD Norma Foley, and Senator Mike Kennelly.
