The N71 Killarney to Kenmare Road is expected to reopen to traffic around now.
Kerry County Council stated that the road was due to open at approximately 3 o'clock this afternoon.
A fire that broke out in the Five Mile Bridge area of Killarney National Park yesterday evening (14 July) is believed to have started at around 6 o'clock (6pm).
Fire crews from Killarney, Kenmare and Killorglin responded to the incident with support from NPWS staff to contain and suppress the fire.
NPWS air support was also deployed, with helicopters using Bambi buckets to assist ground crews in tackling the blaze.
The fire was brought under control and all firefighting operations were stood down at 10:15pm.
The affected area is estimated to between 20 and 22 hectares in size and includes a mixture of dry heath, wet heath and blanket bog along with pockets of native old oak woodland.
NPWS staff continue to assess the affected area today, monitor for any remaining hotspots and determine whether any further firefighting operations are required.
They thanked the public for reporting the fire and all emergency service personnel, aviation crews, the local authority and NPWS staff involved in the response.
