There are nearly 500 bench warrants outstanding in the Kerry Garda Division.

Bench warrants, which can be issued by a judge, give An Garda Siochana powers to arrest a person accused - or convicted - of a crime.

The Department of Justice released the number of outstanding bench warrants across all garda divisions.

There are 498 bench warrants outstanding in the Kerry Garda Division.

Of these, 47 have been outstanding for less than six months, while 412 were issued over 12 months ago.

People can have multiple warrants.

The oldest bench warrant which has yet to be served in Kerry is over 23 years old; it was issued in January 1997.

The department says that, as of July 25th, there are nearly 34,000 bench warrants outstanding nationally.
