Minister for Mental Health expects North Kerry CAMHS review by end of August

The Minister of State with responsibility for mental health expects to receive the North Kerry CAMHS review by the end of the month.

Dr Colette Halpin is leading the lookback review into the care of 300 children and young people at North Kerry Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).

In June, the HSE apologised for the review still not being complete, despite initially being expected in March last year.

Junior minister Mary Butler says the delays are very upsetting for families:

Junior minister Mary Butler welcomed that 230 of 240 of the families of the young people injured in the care of South Kerry CAMHS chose the non-adversarial compensation scheme.

She also said she had visited 18 CAMHS teams nationwide over the last two to three months, examining the causes of the long waiting lists.
