A Kerry TD has told the Dáil that children with autism should not have to fight for supports in education.

Independent Deputy Danny Healy-Rae was speaking during a debate on special education in Dáil Éireann yesterday.

He said every child has a right to education, and if it’s special education, then so be it.

Deputy Healy-Rae also said that SNAs need to be placed locally to where children are, and to have sufficient transport, for their supports to be effective.

The Independent TD said children with autism have to fight for everything in education.
