A Kerry MEP is welcoming the European Commission’s business simplification initiative.
Kilcummin native Seán Kelly says the initiative will cut red tape and boost Europe’s competitiveness.
However, he emphasises that while it is important to reduce unnecessary rules, key protections must remain in place.
MEP Kelly believes that for Europe to be competitive, it must streamline regulations without compromising oversight.
He also states that he supports efforts to reduce the administrative burden on businesses.
The Ireland South MEP claims simplifying reporting requirements and improving access to financial resources, such as InvestEU, will help businesses grow and create jobs.
However, he warns against excessive deregulation, stressing that some rules are necessary for environmental protection, consumer rights, and fair competition.
He insists that changes should focus on eliminating unnecessary bureaucracy rather than weakening standards.
He also highlights the link between economic strength and energy independence, warning that reliance on imports from countries such as Russia, Azerbaijan, Qatar, and the US leaves Europe vulnerable to price shocks.
He argues that energy self-sufficiency should be a priority to protect businesses and consumers from future crises.
Seán Kelly says he will continue to support the omnibus initiative, provided it delivers real benefits for European businesses.
