Kerry home support workers announce two strike dates in February

Health care assistants who provide home support in Kerry will take strike action on two dates in February.

Kerry SIPTU members in the HSE home support service voted in favour of strike action earlier this month.

It’s in relation to a dispute between health care assistants and their employers around national agreements on terms and conditions.

SIPTU says the unresolved issues include underpayments going back to 2018, and the non-implementation of rostering agreements.

The union says there is also worker burnout due to excessive split shifts and inadequate breaks, as well as the use of contractors by the HSE.

SIPTU members working as health care assistants in the HSE home support service in Kerry and Cork will engage in strike action on Thursday 19th and Thursday 26th February.

SIPTU says during the work stoppages, staff will not be available for their normal roster, and pickets will be placed at the offices of their employers.

It says contingency arrangements for emergency issues relating to service users will be agreed with the employer.

SIPTU says it remains available to engage with the HSE to resolve this dispute, but its members will be left with no alternative but to withdraw their labour should no meaningful engagement be forthcoming.
