Kerry councillors urge Foreign Affairs Minister to create an annual passport renewal campaign

Kerry councillors will write to the Foreign Affairs Minister urging for an annual passport renewal campaign.

Cllr John O’Donoghue tabled the motion at the recent full meeting of Kerry County Council.

The Kerry Independent Alliance councillor says people often don’t realise their passports are out of date until they’re going abroad.

He’s seeking for the establishment of a national “Passport Day” - where media can “be flooded with ads” reminding people to check their expiry dates and renew them.

The motion was seconded by Cllr Jackie Healy-Rae who said it makes no sense that a flight can be booked and your passport not be in date; adding a change is also needed on that end.
