Junior Minister with responsibility for drugs strategy supports improved treatment services in Kerry

The Minister of State with responsibility for the national drugs strategy says she supports improved drug treatment services in Kerry.

Minister of State Jennifer Murnane O'Connor says she’s against the decriminalisation of the possession of drugs for personal use.

Last week, TDs and Senators on the joint committee on drugs use recommended changing the law.

Junior Minister Murnane O'Connor believes supporting people with treatment and investing in prevention is the way to help people with addition.

She believes a health-led approach is needed and says the SAOR programme supports people get help to manage their addiction.

Minister of State Jennifer Murnane O'Connor hopes this will reduce the numbers appearing in court for personal drug use:
