Jim Finucane, former Cathaoirleach of Kerry Council, has been appointed honorary consul of Ukraine for the south west region.
Speaking at his appointment at a ceremony in the Ashe Hotel, Tralee, the Ukrainian ambassador to Ireland, Larysa Gerasko said the opening of an honorary consular office in Tralee is a historic moment.
Jim Finucane, who's also a former mayor of Tralee, will represent four counties including Kerry.
Ukraine's consular office is based at Ashe Street, Tralee.
Ukraine’s ambassador to Ireland says the opening of her country’s honorary consul for the south-west of Ireland and Jim Finucane’s appointment was a historic moment not only for Ukraine’s diplomatic presence in Ireland and also for the many Ukrainians who, for now, call Kerry, Clare, Limerick and Tippeary their home.
Ambassador Gerasko thanked the Irish people, local authorities, and government for their support since Russia’s invasion of her country.
