A founding member of the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle has been honoured for his contribution to society.
Killarney Municipal District and Kerry County Council held a civic reception for Denis Geaney, a founding member of and the driving force behind the annual event.
The Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle has raised more than €22 million for good causes since the first event in 1983.
Mr Geaney thanked his late wife Mary, his family, friends, and the cycle’s supporters for everything they had done to help over the years.
The Cathaoirleach of Killarney MD Cllr Maura Healy-Rae had proposed honouring Denis Geaney; her motion received unanimous support from councillors.
More than 200 guests attended the ceremony to honour Mr Greaney, including Killarney MD councillors, MEP Sean Kelly, Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae, and Deputy Danny Healy-Rae.
