Kerry County Council employs 18 school wardens across the county.
That’s according to information provided by the council’s Road Safety Officer at the recent Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne MD meeting.
School wardens are employed by the local authority as part of the roads and transportation department.
They work to ensure the safety of school children at designated school crossing points on mornings, lunch times and evenings.
Responding to a question from Cllr Breandán Fitzgerald, Declan Keogh advised a total of 18 are employed at present.
He said 16 of these are at schools of over 100 pupils, while the others are at schools with 95 and 97 students.
