Pressure must be kept on to progress the project at Foildarrig Bridge in North Kerry.
That’s according to councillors in the Listowel Municipal District.
Last November the road between Duagh and Kilmorna was closed by Kerry County Council due to concerns about the integrity of Foildarrig bridge.
Last November the road at Foildarrig Bridge was due to be closed for four weeks due to concerns around the integrity of the bridge.
However, the road reopened in less than two weeks after structural surveys were carried out and engineering consultants stated it was safe to reopen.
At the recent Listowel MD meeting, Independent councillor Liam Speedy Nolan and Fine Gael councillor Aoife Kennelly both tabled motions seeking an update on the progress at Foildarrig Bridge.
Both councillors told the council that pressure must be kept on to progress the project, with Cllr Nolan saying residents don’t want any unnecessary closures.
In response, the council stated that funding has been received through the Department of Transport’s Road Grant programme to progress this process through Stage 1 this year.
The tender for the project was advertised and the tender evaluation process is now underway.
The council says the view is to appoint an engineering consultant who will progress the project through feasibility, options and evaluation stages.
The council says this will be a multi annual project.
