Fianna Fáil’s four MEPs are set to abstain from a vote in the European Parliament calling for alumina exports to Russia to be banned.
The vote tomorrow is non-binding but, if passed, would put pressure on the European Commission to add the Aughinish Alumina plant to its Russian sanctions list.
The factory, which is located off the N69 close to Askeaton, is a significant employer in North Kerry and West Limerick, located off the N69 close to Askeaton.
It processes bauxite, which is a sedimentary rock with a relatively high aluminium content.
It's expected all MEPs from Fine Gael, Sinn Féin and Labour will support the motion.
A Government review is underway to establish if alumina produced in Limerick being used in Russia’s war effort.
