The Department of Defence and the National Ambulance Service (NAS) are in discussions about possibly hosting an ambulance base in Killorglin.
The Irish Defence Forces have a purpose-built facility in Iveragh Park, Killorglin.
The department states it serves as a headquarters for military exercises, tactical training and to aid both the Civil Power and Civil Authority activities in the area.
Minister for Defence, Helen McEntee said her department is discussing a number of options for an ambulance base at the Killorglin facility.
These include potentially placing a modular building at the rear of the Defence Forces building for use by the NAS.
She was responding to a request for a temporary ambulance base in the town by Fianna Fáil TD Michael Cahill.
Minister McEntee says they are examining the feasibility of hosting the ambulance base .
She says that the department will engage further with the NAS once this examination is complete.
