Department of Defence in discussions with National Ambulance Service about hosting ambulance base in Killorglin

 

The Department of Defence and the National Ambulance Service (NAS) are in discussions about possibly hosting an ambulance base in Killorglin.

The Irish Defence Forces have a purpose-built facility in Iveragh Park, Killorglin.

 

The department states it serves as a headquarters for military exercises, tactical training and to aid both the Civil Power and Civil Authority activities in the area.

Minister for Defence, Helen McEntee said her department is discussing a number of options for an ambulance base at the Killorglin facility.

These include potentially placing a modular building at the rear of the Defence Forces building for use by the NAS.

She was responding to a request for a temporary ambulance base in the town by Fianna Fáil TD Michael Cahill.

Minister McEntee says they are examining the feasibility of hosting the ambulance base .

She says that the department will engage further with the NAS once this examination is complete.
