Counting of Presidential Election votes for the Kerry constituency begins

Counting of votes for the Kerry constituency began at the Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre at 9am.

Almost 100 out of 261 boxes have been opened and tallied.

Boxes from locations including Tralee, Killarney, Ardfert and Abbeydorney have been opened.

At this early stage, this is how votes are tallying, according to the Catherine Connolly campaign team in Kerry.

• Catherine Connolly, independent – 63.28 %,
• Heather Humphreys, Fine Gael - 28.93%
• Jim Gavin, Fianna Fáil – 7.79%

These are not official figures, only tallied estimates, on the boxes opened so far.

In Kerry 117,500 people were eligible to cast their vote.

So far there has been an estimated voter turnout of 40%
