Council urged to ditch Killarney car park plans and develop park-and-ride options instead

Kerry County Council is being urged to ditch plans to develop 139 car parking spaces in Killarney town centre, and develop a park-and-ride elsewhere instead.

The council is currently proposing to develop a new car park at Green Lawn with 139 spaces.

It would entail a new entrance from Mission Road to the existing lower New Street car park, with a link to this proposed new Green Lawn car park.

Residents in the area are objecting to the plans, claiming it will exacerbate congestion, radically change the area, and cause safety concerns for elderly residents.

People can make submissions on the council's proposal until May 15th at 4pm.

Resident Deirdre Donohue says the council should not be bringing more traffic into the centre of town, and there are many other options for a car park instead of Green Lawn, or a park-and-ride solution.
