Kerry County Council will write to the NPWS requesting a presentation to elected members on Páirc Náisiúnta na Mara, Ciarraí.
It follows a motion at the recent Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne MD meeting, by Fianna Fáil councillor, Breandán Fitzgerald.
Ireland’s first marine national park was officially announced in West Kerry last year, after a state investment of €12 million.
The over 70,000 acres of lands and sea includes the Conor Pass, the Owenmore River Catchment, the Inch Peninsula, Mount Brandon, Skellig Michael and waters around the Blasket Islands.
Mayor of Kerry, Cllr Breandán Fitzgerald said the new national park is a great opportunity for the county, adding the council will most likely be providing access to the park, as well as roads and infrastructure investment.
He described it as a shared opportunity, and urged the National Parks and Wildlife Service to conduct a presentation for all elected representatives on the collaboration and management on the National Park going forward.
The motion was seconded by Fine Gael councillor Tommy Griffin.
