Kerry County Council is to contact several organisations with a view to developing a blueway in Iveragh.
Fianna Fáil councillor Norma Moriarty proposed that the council collaborate with Coillte and the Iveragh Gaeltacht Taskforce to link Lough Currane and Glenmore via such a project.
Blueways are recreational trails along waterways, offering various attractions and activity amenities along the route.
Management informed councillors that the local area plan for the Kenmare Municipal District already contains several Blueway projects, but one connecting Lough Currane with Glenmore is not among them.
They stated that the council supports and facilitates Blueways where appropriate, provided they do not have a significant environmental impact.
They are to contact the Iveragh Gaeltacht Taskforce to discuss their plans for the project.
