Elected Kerry councillors will write to the Housing Minister regarding solar panel restrictions on protected structures and buildings.
It follows a motion from Fianna Fáil councillor Jimmy Moloney at the recent full meeting of Kerry County Council.
He says many businesses within protected structures are being refused planning for solar panels when they apply for them.
Cllr Moloney told the council he supports the preservation of historic buildings, however believes more supports are needed for such businesses.
He said these businesses are caught between two stools, as they are in high energy buildings, with rising costs; however, he believes solar panels could be blended into the roofs.
The motion was seconded by Fianna Fáil councillor, Norma Moriarty.
