Kerry County Council has given the go-ahead for 85 new homes in Tralee.
Ruden Homes Ltd has been granted planning permission to build the homes on a greenfield site in Caherslee.
There will be 75 homes and 10 apartments on the 3.2-hectare site off the main R551 road in Caherslee.
Most will be two and three-bed houses, while there will also be a creche on-site.
The development will be served by two new entrances off the Caherslee road – one for vehicles, and one for pedestrians and cyclists.
Kerry County Council concluded that there was no requirement for traffic lights at the new junction off the Caherslee road, but it will have to reassess if there is further development.
The lands to the north of this site, also owned by Ruden Homes Ltd, extend back as far as the Tralee-Fenit Greenway and are set aside for future residential development, according to a site masterplan.
A number of submissions were made by locals, raising concerns about the development.
They raised issues including traffic congestion and safety, overlooking and loss of privacy to nearby properties, infrastructure capacity, and flooding.
Kerry County Council granted planning subject to 25 conditions.
