Council CEO hopeful for new approach on engagement with South Kerry Greenway landowners

The CEO of Kerry County Council is hoping a new approach to engagement with landowners on the South Kerry Greenway will help negotiations.

Fearghal Reidy was speaking after a public meeting in south Kerry last night, organised by the Kerry branch of the Irish Farmers’ Association.

The meeting provided an opportunity for landowners along the greenway to discuss issues with senior Kerry County Council executives who attended.

The 27km route between Glenbeigh and Cahersiveen was acquired by Kerry County Council from around 170 landowners by compulsory purchase order.

It’s understood fewer than half of the landowners have been paid for the land so far, with some gone to independent arbitration and others yet to submit a claim for payment over issues with accommodation works.

Kerry County Council CEO Fearghal Reidy is calling for landowners along the route to engage in its new approach to negotiations.
