It’s expected around 65% of landowners impacted by the South Kerry Greenway will have been paid in full by the end of the year.
Kerry Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae told the Dáil it is unfair that many landowners along the 27km route, whose land is being used, have not yet been paid.
Kerry County Council used a compulsory purchase order for the greenway between Glenbeigh and Cahersiveen, with 138 individual landowners affected.
Once the CPO was approved by the national planning body, Kerry County Council immediately owned the land and could begin works while negotiating the price to be paid for the land.
Minister of State Jerry Buttimer, responding on behalf of the Transport Minister, said the funding is there to pay a further 54 landowners by the end of the year.
Kerry TD Danny Healy-Rae said for future projects, no works should be started before payments are agreed.
