Council appealing to beach-goers to avoid water for duration of orange thunderstorm warning

Kerry County Council is appealing to beach-goers and swimmers to avoid the water for the duration of status orange thunderstorm warning.

The warning is in place until 7 o’clock this evening.

Met Éireann says during this thunderstorm warning there could be heavy downpours leading to flooding in places, lightning damage, hail, very gusty winds and hazardous driving conditions.

Kerry County Council is appealing to people to be vigilant during what it calls this period of rapidly evolving weather conditions.

It says in the event of heavy downpours, motorists should slow down and travel with care.

Kerry County Council is also appealing to beach-goers and swimmers to avoid the water for the duration of the warning, given the likelihood of thunderstorms and lightning.
