The book of evidence is to be served on a man with a Killarney address who believes he'll be killed if he is deported to his home country, Egypt.
The Irish Examiner reports that Ahmed Ibrahim of the Cooperage, Bohereencael, Killarney has been charged with escaping from custody as he was being taken into Cork Prison.
He’s also charged with resisting gardaí during an incident at Cork Prison on January 15th.
Detective Sergeant Ernie Henderson told Cork District Court that certain charges against Ahmed Ibrahim were being withdrawn by the State.
Mr Ibrahim is now charged with escaping from lawful custody at Cork Prison and resisting arrest by a garda.
The 34-year-old is also charged with burglary and theft of a car in Tralee.
Judge David Waters remanded Ahmed Ibrahim in continuing custody until July 21 for preparation and service of a book of evidence.
At a previous hearing, Detective Sergeant Henderson said the accused’s reply when charged was that he would be killed if he returns to Egypt because he is gay.
