Bogus tradespeople operating in the North Kerry and West Limerick area scammed a household out of €4,000 recently.
Fine Gael senator Mike Kennelly says there’s been a number of incidences with bogus tradespeople calling to homes in both areas.
He is raising the issue in Seanan Éireann today.
Senator Kennelly says homeowners often feel intimidated by these people and feel pressured into allowing them carry out works at their home.
He says this is wrong and says people have lost thousands of euro as a result:
The Kerry Divisional Crime Officer, Sergeant Mike Quirke is urging people not to be intimidated if someone calls to their home offering to carry out work.
He says no genuine tradesperson will call to your house seeking work as they are already busy enough.
Sergeant Quirke says bogus tradespeople are good at gaining people’s trust and he says they also create a sense of urgency claiming the work needs to be carried out straight away.
He says people shouldn’t ever feel embarrassed if they get caught out.
